About

I’ve always liked to read and tell stories, but I was also a captive of the corporate world for more than forty years. Anyone who has lived at the senior level of a large company knows there’s little time for serious writing, and it took retirement from that world to launch a new pursuit. My first book was a work of non-fiction, co-authored with my friend Jeff Allen. That positive experience taught me that writing a book is undoubtedly a challenge, but it’s not insurmountable!

So, my life experiences serve as a foundation for entertaining suspense thrillers, using the backdrop of a large, multinational corporation for my tales of intrigue. Since my 2016 debut story, Three Weeks Less a Day, I’ve released a new novel each year, and my eighth, When Power Fails, is now available.

My corporate career provided a wealth of insight into varied and diverse situations. I’ve worked in supermarkets, sold appliances, distributed motorcycles, launched an automobile dealer network, and provided financing, then consulting, to help businesses grow. Every industry was different from the others. Every company had its distinctive culture and character, but all were units of large corporations with operations around the globe.

So, travel has always been a significant component of my roles. I had the pleasure of visiting almost every city, town, village, and hamlet in Canada while leading sales and marketing activities for the motorcycle division, before starting the automobile business of Suzuki Motor Company’s Canadian subsidiary.

My job with a subsidiary of ITT took me to most of the states in the US. I also enjoyed visiting all EU countries while living and working in Germany for several years – spearheading the creation of a new business unit for Deutsche Bank. And my responsibilities with a unit of GE Capital allowed me to explore several countries in Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. Every trip was an education.

In those times, studying business practices and cultures before trips was essential. Every day inside a country mined valuable information to develop a deeper understanding of its people, culture, laws, and treasures.

Today, I have the good fortune to be a member and former Co-Chair of the Writers’ Community of York Region - a vibrant collection of writers from all genres supporting one another and improving our craft. We have over 100 members and welcome writers from our geographic area and beyond. Many events we hold are virtual, making it easy to justify membership and benefit from the collegiality of the group or the knowledge of our expert presenters. Experts say we should write about things we know best. In my case, those subjects are business, travel, and people. As an author, I aim to share some experiences, insights, and views as I create suspense stories designed to entertain people worldwide -- one reader at a time.
